77. Boxing Day 2023

Exactly three years ago I set out on an epic voyage to begin the Ultimate World FM Game. It was my intention for this to be a bit of a journeyman save where I switched from club to club, country to country, perhaps eventually ending up back in "Blighty." It turned out very different, but in a good way because I ended up staying in Cambodia with EDC and decided to make the story more than just updates about how the team were getting on, which it started out as, but into something more with characters, storylines and drama around the matches to add more depth to this footballing adventure. While this was great fun, it also took up a lot of my time and I also got a bit bored of the save from a Football Manager perspective and so I have decided to end this story (for now) However, the good news is I have upgraded to FM23 and have started work on a new story which will be a lot closer to home (for me) than Cambodia.

While doing this story I also learnt a lot about Cambodia, its sometimes tragic history and its wonderful religious sites, landscapes, people, culture and of course its football, which has been amazing, but I yearned to write about a team much closer to home. More will be revealed in the New Year.

I hope though to return to the Ultimate World FM Game with a brand new country and team in the future for Part 2.

  It was two days after the party and the first day back at training. In this time I'd had time to reflect on the events and Hem Vutha's shock announcement. I had very much mixed feelings about the situation. 72. Start of Season 7

  Despite the upheaval of the takeover which which rumbling on in the backgound, it was important that me and my backroom staff took a "business as usual" approach to the start of the brand new Cambodian season. It is fair to say that the fixture computer had been less than kind to us during this period too. Some nice easy fixtures and a few early wins would help my cause of staying in the job, should any new owner be thinking about making a change. The first game, a visit to the vastly improved National Police (at least in a footballing sense) was followed by Boeung Ket at home and then a trip to the casino in our third match, which could potentially be my first match under the new regime. 1. The Ultimate World Football Manager Game – The Set Up Part 1.

  Saturday 26 th December 2020 (in real life) Boxing Day is arguably the most important day in the world sporting calendar. Traditionally and in a normal year it was the day when men would ‘escape’ after spending the previous day with family and loved ones. This year was different, the year we were advised to be ‘jolly careful’ by our Prime Minister, Boris Johnson and it was the time where I only had one day to see my parents on Christmas Day. My original plans for Boxing Day 2020 had been kyboshed by the tightening of restrictions just days before. My Dad though has a saying, ‘Preparation meeting opportunity’ Sat in my living room with just my laptop, a can of coke and some background Christmas telly, Boxing Day 2020 was the perfect day to start my epic footballing journey.
